Setting your goal....help

I've read once in awhile that you should update your goal every 10 pounds or so to make sure the calories you require are correct. I set me goal for the final weight I want to be. Was that wrong?

No, that's not wrong. I think (and I'm not sure) that when people say that, they mean that you should update how quickly you want to lose, like 2 pounds per week, one pound per week. If you only have ten pounds to lose and you want to lose two a week, it will give you fewer calories, so people often recommend setting it to half a pound per week at that point - that sort of thing.
If your goal is 140 (or whatever you chose), you can leave that there.
I didn't even have a goal weight and had to pull one out of my hat to set up the account.0 -
OP, MFP automatically updates your calorie goal as you lose weight. So as long as you are using MFP to determine your calories and you are logging your weight, you don't have to worry about it. If you used some other TDEE calculator and manually picked your calorie goal, then you should refigure it every once in awhile to make sure you are eating the correct calories as you lose weight.0

Ok thanks. I thought maybe I was just suppose to put it down 10 lbs at a time and it would change how many calories I could consume. I guess if I stop losing I can re assess at that time. So far I've lost at least a pound a week which is my goal. Sometimes a pound and a half or even 2.0

Thanks so much. I did use MFP to set my goal and I am updating my weight and tracking everything I eat daily. It hasn't updated me yet but I've only lost 14 lbs so far. This makes perfect sense and answers my question. I will watch for MFP to make the adjustment.0
