Just curious. Having a discussion about this with my husband and he thinks they are... I'm on the fence.

    Yep.

Consuming 2000 calories then burning 200 leaves you at 1800 calories.

    They're the same.

Get off the fence, they're the same.

Edited: Except you get to eat more with the 2000 calories.

It's the same. However, how are you calculating the calorie burn? If you are using MFP calorie burn then no... The calorie burn on MFP are overexagerated.

If you're sure about the exercise calories, yes, I guess so. I don't eat all those exercise calories, but if I could do it and still lose weight, you can bet your sweet patootie that I would!

I think many of those exercise estimates are off, though.

The same in terms of weight loss, nutrition, or some other aspect?

The 2000 might help you fit in extra foods you love that keep you happy, and depending on what's burning the 200, the exercise might make your stamina/endurance/balance/lifestyle/etc better.
