PCOS and Hormones

I need help understanding PCOS. I am not talking about what it is or how it affects weight loss. My wife has been acting very differently. I am talking about how it affects hormones, depression, anger or any other emotional affects. She was put on a hormone pill for 10 days and then birth control after that. She also takes Metformin. I just don't understand the Hormonal problems that come with PCOS and all that stuff. I understand that many will not be familiar with this topic but if someone is please explain.
A specific PCOS specialist along with her reguler medical provider and Gyno are being consulted. I am looking for advice from those that have had experience with this isue. Perhaps some ladies that can help me to understand what she is going through?

I am no way the norm so this is just my experience but did you notice mood changes before or after she began to be medicated, I found that metformin made me severely depressed to the point of suicidal and not myself at all, it also interacts with me in crazy ways, I needed to eat a high sugar meal with it or it would make me sick.
Sorry but I have nothing past that, my endocrine specialist told me straight up this simply wasn't true so I have been going for controlling it with diet.
Also all of those meds are going to screw with hormone levels so I would be pushing for regular testing to track the fluctuations, if she hasn't been on them very long then maybe they just need to settle, be patient. It will be very scary for her from the inside, you can sort of see yourself from outside of yourself and you have no control over the way you act. Trust that the negative isn't her its the fluctuating hormones. Really awesome that you are trying to understand, a supportive partner is such a godsend when you think you are crazy.
I hope it all works out with everyone looking after her :-)0 -
She has been on metformin for a long time. The others are new though. The hormone pills were for only 10 days and she is already done with those. Just Metformin and birth control right now. What do you mean by "settle"? Does she stay as she currently is or does it go away as her body gets used to the new meds? What does all this have to with PCOS? Does PCOS cause hormonal changes that can cause anger, overreactions and/or depression?
Another thing...............PMS? Being with PCOS her period is very irregular. Being on these meds is supposed to make the cycle regular again. Is it possible that she is just going through PMS and the 2 of us are not used to its effects due to the past irregularity in the cycles?0 -
It depends on the birth control she's on, from my experience. I have PCOS, and was on Errin (the mini-pill, called a few other things as well) for a while and it made me effing INSANE. Like, I was hormonal and evil and in tears and all over the place. I'm sure you've considered it as well, but there's also the heartbreak of having to add more medications and deal with more stuff just to get your body to function properly. There have been many nights I've been up in tears because I just want my body to function the way it was meant to.0
