I gained this week...

I'm so discouraged. I lost 28 pounds. 28 POUNDS!! And when I finally hit a good momentum, I gained 4 back, and an inch around my waist. I know there's some reason why. I'm kicking myself.

I upped my weight training this week. Maybe that was why. My usual routine is:

Monday - Body Pump
Tuesday - 45 minute Elliptical
Wednesday - 30 minutes Circuit Training
Thursday - 40 minute run
Friday - Rest
Saturday - 30 minutes Circuit
Sunday - Rest

This week -

Monday - Body Pump
Tuesday - 45 minutes Elliptical
Wednesday - 30 Arms/Chest
Thursday - 30 minute run and 30 min legs
Friday - Rest
Saturday - 30 minutes Arc Trainer
Sunday - 40 minute run

Did I accidentally sabotage myself? My eating hasn't really changed since I first started about 7 weeks ago. I added in a protein smoothie on the weight days, in lieu of my normal breakfast. I don't eat very much refined sugar - if any. I keep some Lindt Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt bars in the pantry for chocolate cravings, but I only have 1-2 squares every 3 days or so. I don't drink a lot of soda...if I do give in a drink a Diet Coke, it's maybe 1 or 2 per week. The rest of the time, I drink water or unsweet tea. I'm drinking 10-15 glasses of water a day.

I don't know...I'm really beating myself up. I think I'd rather plateau than gain.

yup, I was talking to my eldest today and we both fluctuate 1-3 pounds in a day, and I put on up to 7 with my pre-menstrual bloating. how many surplus cals would you need to have eaten for that 4 to be in fat?

don't fret, just weigh again in a few days.

You would have had to eat a surplus of 2000 calories every day for a week to gain 4 lbs. It's normal fluctuation. Weigh yourself again in a few days.

My daily and weekly weight fluctuated while always trending down.
My goal was about 1 pound per week lost, and when I average this out, it comes to .73 lbs per week, because there were some weeks where I gained.
BOTTOM LINE: if you're trending back up, it's probably your diet.

If you didn't fluctuate, you would not be human, so some fluctuation is good. Even people with full time professional guidance fluctuate. What I try to do is concentrate on my monthly average as long as I'm losing more than I'm gaining over an extended period then I'm good. If I'm not losing over the monthy average then I change up my routine. I'm learning more and more thatcweiggt loss and fitness is a process, not an event. By the way to all who may read this post, I'm looking for motivational friends here on MFP so friend me pleeeeeze!
