Swimming calories burned

I swim between 1 1/2 & 2 1/2 miles 5 days a week and I burn approximately 500 calories per mile swimming at a moderate pace with sprints thrown in.
This week we have had a wildfire in our area, creating smoky conditions. I have been waiting until afternoon when the air clears a bit and have stopped doing sprints and have been swimming at a slower pace, but still completing the same distance.
Am I burning the same number of calories, or fewer due to my slower pace?

I would think you'd burn less. I use this site to calculate my swimming calorie burns - they come out lower than MFP has them.

You burn fewer calories when you swim slower, yes. For swimming, the primary force you're fighting with (expending energy = burning calories) is water resistance. That's higher the faster you go.0
