Water weight

Can someone please explain how exactly we initially lose water weight in the beginning? It's so cliché that we say first few pounds is water weight but if you're intaking enough water, how is that possible? I guess I just want to know the science behind it.

If you want to know the science behind it then do an awful lot of reading in to glycogen stores in the liver and the function of them and what changes affect them.
You can read as much as you like, and can break it down in to polysaccharides etc.

I searched Google for "diet initial water loss". Here's a pretty good link:
Is initial diet weight loss mostly water or is this just a frequently repeated myth?0 -
Probably because when most people go on a diet they cut carb and salt intake. Both of which will make you lose some water weight until the body regains homeostasis.0
