I am looking for opinions and advice on supplements and vitamins. I am taking a multivitamin now and am considerradding something to help my aging joints such as Osteo BiFlex. Is it worth it or am I wasting my money? Also is there anything else I should be considering? I am also curious from anyone using supplements do you log them or not?

You'll get differing opinions. Most people will advise getting a blood test to see of you're deficient in anything, and go from there.

I log all my supplements, simply so I can remember what I have or haven't taken. They're all calorie free, except for the fish oil.

I'm not qualified to tell you if you need supplements or not but I do take a calcium supplement. I don't care much for milk and besides yogurt I don't eat a lot of dairy products. I just don't meet my calcium requirements each day. I take a multivitamin with minerals because I'm too lazy to track them and it's easier to just take the vitamin. I'm not eating enough to overdose on anything. And I take salmon oil.

I take a triple strength joint supplement, and see a very noticeable difference when I stop taking it for a week or two. It does take about a month of taking them regularly to start to get results so if you try it be sure to take if for a while and make sure you are getting a quality supplement that has enough of the active ingredients in it to be effective.

I also take a multivitamin and a micronutrient supplement. The micronutrient has had the effect of reducing my allergy symptoms quite a lot. When I stop taking it the itchy eyes and sinus issues come right back.

Many people are low to borderline low on vitamin D

My dr told me to take a daily multivitamin and electrolyte replacement drink when I exercise out in the southeast heat.

Thanks everyone for the good comments. I took Glucosamine a few years back and noticed a difference that is part of the reason why was considering it again. Back then I had a very physical job and my joints were bothering me, bit they stoped when I changed jobs and now with working out they are starting again. As to Vitamin D I did that before and was less tired.

The biflex is a total ripoff.

Vitamin and mineral supplements are good and extremely helpful IF you need them. If you don't need them, your body will either store or eliminate the excess vitamin or mineral.

If you haven't had a checkup lately, go get one. They'll run your blood and let you know if supplements would be helpful. :)

I take 3G of fish oil everyday, along with a multivitamin, 3.2g of beta alanine, 2-4g creatine hcl, and 3G betaine. It's up to you, there are proven benefits to supplements, fish is recommended by doctors, nutritionists, and athletes alike. It will help with aching joints do to its anti inflammatory abilities. But up to you

For the most part, supplements are worthless. There are some exceptions and legitimate uses.
We must all research this on our own and decide for ourselves.
I take a multi-vitamin and a baby aspirin. I see value in this, but who knows?
A sure test is if they attach outrageous claims to these products. And beware anybody advocating supplements who want to sell you supplements or recruit you into their MLM pyramid scheme.
    Just be careful!

Take them if they are recommended by your Dr and you have a deficiency.

This is quite a good documentray which examines vitamins and shows you how the supplement industry started. Worth watching and you cna make your own mind up.

Examine.com is an excellent site to find independently researched articles on supplements and brands. Great place to start doing your research to decide which supplements may help you reach your goals.

For joints I take a supplement that contains Glucosamine Chondroitin and MSM. Just glucosamine alone does not do it for me. Each of those ingredients has a different role. The one by Schiff that sells at Wal mart for around $15 worked fairly well for me. I don't get to Wal Mart much anymore so I use another brand carried by my local grocery store chain.

I have not tried fish oil so can't speak to that.

Years ago there was this publication called Lab Test Review...and seeing their results is what soured my attitude toward supplements in general.
