How to pick a good Watermelon!

Whelp of course the old fashion way of thumping it. Listen for the Hollow sound, the more hollow the sound the sweeter it will be.
Also look at the watermelon and see if one side of it is Yellow. The more yellow it is the riper/sweeter it will be as well!
~In the grocery store I'm a thumping machine :flowerforyou:

I knew about thumping but not about the color... thanks for the tip.... Love Watermelon!

I'm not sure how many people know this.... I usually take my son with me so I don't look so crazy! lol

Yellow means it didn't get sun on that side, not indicative of sugar production.

Hollow sounding is generally a negative indicator of quality, the more it's dried out, the more hollow it has become. The deeper the thump, the better.

A couple good safe general rules of thumb are:
    1. Buy in season for the sweetest melon.
    2. Pick them up, keep the one that is heaviest for its size.
    3. Buy two or three, in case the first isn't quite right. ;)
    4. When in doubt, inject the melon with a bottle of vodka.
