Hi, guys. So I had my gallbladder out (laproscopic) about three weeks ago, and for the most part, I feel great. I did try running a bit (a bit of backstory, I was running BEFORE I got it out, too. So this wasn't new) but it felt like I was getting side stitches, except in all of my incision sites.
Have any of you runners had your gallbladder out? I know everyone is different, but about how soon did you start running afterwards? I have a 5k coming up in September, and I'd really like to get back the 3 weeks of training I've lost.
Thanks

did your doctor not tell you how long to wait before starting exercising again?0

He gave me a sort of general "you COULD be doing some exercise as early as this day in the future" He's a great surgeon, but to be honest, I was sort of rushed into the surgery, so I didn't think to ask this question, and I guess he maybe didn't figure me for the exercising type.0

well I would ring my doctor and ask, but that's just me....
general rule of thumb, if it hurts, don't do it.0 -
I only took about 10 days off from running after my gall bladder removal. I was back on my bicycle in less than a week. It did take me a couple of weeks to get back where I was before the surgery though. You definitely should talk to your doctor.0

I had mine removed five weeks ago. I certainly bounced back better than I would have after open surgery. I was talking hour long walks the week after, but I'm still limited in my exercise of choice, yoga. Keep in mind that you just had surgery. There's no shame in walking a race when you've had abdominal surgery in the past few months if your body is still warning you to slow down.0

Follow the suggestions on your discharge instructions.
I had lots of complications after my gallbladder surgery, including a cracked rib that the doctors failed to tell me about. It was more like 6 weeks before I was back to intense exercise, and even then I had significant pain.
Swimming is good! Try something gentle for a while.0
