Making Comebacks

I have started my 33rd comeback - I have had many over the course of 71 years - , and what has helped when I am not losing weight or exercising is to remember that "I have a relationship with my "program" even if I am not doing it. It's doubly distressing and doubly damaging to my motivation if I trash myself for "back sliding" or "failing" my intentions. Subsequently - because sluffing off eventually does not feel good - I return home to my relationship to activity and calorie counting which, of course, always works for me in losing weight.
I am interested to know how other "bring themselves back" from the sedentary, weight-gaining state of being.

I had an "aha" moment when introduced to the books by Judith Beck, especially The Beck Diet Solution and the Beck Diet Trap Solution. The books address our thought processes that end us up back where we started-- sedentary and regaining weight we worked so hard to lose. The books recommend skills to practice for two weeks before actually embarking on the journey back to health to make sure that your are really prepared. I also found that just starting to faithfully record everything I am eating was it own level of motivation-- I really had no idea how much I was eating until I did that.0
