If your starting weight is high, you may be able to lose three pounds a week for a little while. But for most of us, that's too rapid. Quick weight loss can impact our health and energy and it also usually means that more of what you lose will be muscle (rather than fat).

I lost 1-2 pounds a week for most of the time that I was losing weight. For the last month or so, I lost .5 pounds a week.

A lot of that weight loss will be water weight-most people lose a few pounds in the first week, and then it starts evening out, usually depending on your weight and your deficit between .5 and 2lbs per week.

But don't get discouraged! A loss is a loss either way! Plus weight loss isn't linear; don't get discouraged if you find you don't lose for a couple of weeks, or even gain a couple of pounds at any point.

It's common to have a big drop when you start a program. However, since you have 47 pounds to lose, moving forward, a 1 # loss per week is a more attainable target to shoot for. Any more may be too aggressive. But you can set your goals for 2 # per week and see how you feel.

Supposedly according to a challenge at work I've lost like 9 lbs in 3 weeks but honestly I was popped high the high day mmm country ham. I'll believe closer to 5 lbs which is what my scale has been showing in the same time.

1-2 pounds per week is a good safe goal. As stated by others, losing 3 lbs a week could be unhealthy. I weigh almost everyday. That may be discouraging for new dieters. Its not uncommon for me to experience 2-3 lbs swings with a general down trend. I attribute that to several variables: Time of day I weigh, level of hydration, fecal matter in inststines, food in stomach, amount of glycogen, muscle gained/losses vs fat gained/lost. Eight ounces of water weighs about .5 lbs. A glass of water plus a cup of coffee or tea close to weighing could add a pound. Also use inches in addition to weight to measure your progress, especially if you exercise a lot. Muscle w
