Hello,

I'm new to MFP and will be getting a gym membership soon, but I sprained my ankle a few days ago and was wondering what kind of exercises I can do. I'm bummed because I really want to throw myself into it but I feel like I can't. It's a mild sprain and I can walk on it, just not sure about jumping or pivoting a lot. Thank you!

I know it can be hard to have patience when you're feeling revved up and ready to go, but I honestly would not do anything that involved putting weight on that ankle until it is fully healed. Otherwise, you may just find yourself out of commission a lot longer. If you have some weights, rubber bands, or an exercise ball, perhaps there are some things you can do to work your arms or core while staying completely off that foot.

Almost none of the weight lifting machines require loading the foot, usually.

Only the calf machine would need to be skipped, all the other extension, curl, press, pull, ect can be used.

And guess what is going to transform your body more while you eat less than you burn for the day total - cardio or resistance training.

I had a bad sprained ankle and foot a while ago. There are a ton of chair videos you can find on youtube. There are some excellent wheelchair zumba ones that are fun, and allow you to get some cardio in without being on your feet. Do a search and I'm sure you will find some videos that suit you.

    Feel better soon!
