Question for the women out there

I'm looking for some advice ... I am thinking about getting off BC (I've been on it for 12 years and counting) and I'm just ready for my moods/periods/etc to all even out and feel back to normal. I think the BC has played a little into weight gain, mood swings, depression etc and it's just getting worse with age. I plan to use other methods of BC before we want to really start trying in October. and I also want to lose 10 lbs!! With this weighing so heavily on my mind, do you think it'd benefit more to stay on the pill/? I guess what my fear is, is that I'll end up pregnant and even more overweight ... what were other people's experiencing with dieting and pregnancy? Should I just stay on the pill until I lose the desired weight? I guess getting off the pill is a little scary just b/c I've been on it for so long and it's been my only method for birth control. I have to keep reminding myself that it's not the end all be all.

I felt much better off of it. That said, I went off the month before I wanted to try and I got pregnant RIGHT away. So you will DEF need another method LOL!
If you are willing to committ to another method - then go off of it. Some say it is better to get the hormones out of your system before you try.
Talk to your obgyn or doc about another good barrier method.0 -
I've never had any weird side effects from my birth control... I didn't gain weight, yes I get a little moody (but i'm on low hormone dosage, so it's better than it was when I was on my higher dose 6 months ago). People said it makes them gain weight, I never did... I stayed the same weight for the first 2 years and then I believe college caught up with me and I gained.
I've been on the pill for 9 years, and probably another 2 more if all goes according to plan. If you're ready to maybe start a family, then go off. Or you can use another form of BC... if it's only 10 pounds it's not that big a deal - and if you get pregnant while still at the higher weight you can still exercise when you're pregnant, but I would check and see about diet while pregnant with your physician. I've seen on other boards that most doctors recommend you eat a lot more because of the pregnancy, and besides, you're pregnant, you're going to gain weight, it's natural.
I know when i'm ready to have a kid I'll have no issue throwing out the pills.. I don't have crazy mood swings from them, They don't make me gain weight, etc. But again, that's just my pill.0
