Weighted Vests

It is apparent that I need to do more lifting, however I am struggling to drop my cardio. I am thinking about purchasing a weighted vest to wear during cardio workouts, as well as doing strong curves.
Are these things dangerous? I have a relative that said he messed up his back using one while running. I figure to do the obvious, take it slow - get used to it and not go all in at once with the full amount of weight. Any opinions?
What is a recommended weight? 20lbs? 40lbs? I am thinking of going with a 40lb adjustable. I have been told 20lbs is sufficient enough. Opinions?
Any general remarks or experiences would be great! Thanks everyone!

Vests are generally fine and safe when used reasonably. But what are you going to do to add more lifting to your plan?0

100 lbs!
I like to wear it some days just walking, and I keep reminding myself how this was what I weighed.

i don't think weighted vests are necessary for cardio. i give it a thumbs down. there are many other options to beef up your cardio like HIIT, sled push, running on an incline, etc.0

I was thinking the same thing! It would be good to be able to carry around the weight that I used to, which was an extra 104lbs..I doubt I could even lift that though. It kind of makes me sick when I think about what I was doing to my joints with that extra weight for years.0
