When counting calories am I supposed to eat over or under? My calorie count on this app is 1,770. I also heard I'm supposed to have about 50 or more calories left?

    You should eat the 1770

The target is what you eat to achieve the goal you told MFP you wanted to achieve.

Try to stick close to the target.

To lose, you'd want to hit or stay (a little, not much) under. To gain, you'd want to hit or go over. To maintain you'd want to stay right around it. Adjust based on results, of course.

Your goal is your goal - meaning that is what you should eat. So 1770 is the amount to eat. It already has your deficit factored in. Eat less and you'll risk being at too much of a deficit (depending on how much less) - eat more and you'll either maintain or gain (depending on how much more).

Understand that calories keep you alive and also CAN make you gain weight. It's not the lack of calories that makes you gain.

Your deficit is already built in, so you should be eating 1770.
