Low Carb diet for PCOS

Hello :) I hope I am posting this in the right place. First of all, I was recommended to cut down carbs because I am insulin resistant which basically means that my body has a hard time breaking down carbs and produces excess insulin. Both of which turn to fat. I am not on any medications but I am planning to take a multivitamin soon. I recently started a low carb (around 20 grams a day) diet and have been on it for about 2 weeks now. I felt a little weak at the beginning but nothing major. Mostly, I just felt amazing. My focus was back, my mood was better, I had more energy. Then I woke up this morning and my throat was scratchy, my head hurt, my muscles ached, I got really dizzy and it was hard to stand up. I still have to hold on to things so I don't fall. Is this the normal "low carb flu" that was just delayed or is this something I should be concerned about? Does anyone have any personal experience with this? Thank you.

That sounds like a flu to me, but it could be keto flu. Keto flu often involves fatigue and weakness (it did for me), but the sore muscles and scratchy throat sound like a summer flu.

If it is keto flu, upping your salt (to about 5000mg) and taking extra potassium and magnesium should straighten you out in a day or so. Drink extra water too since you can get dehydrated a bit easier than before.

There are not a lot of low carb people, or those supportive of low carb, around here, but if you try the Low Carber Daily or Keto forums, you'll find lots of people eating the same way.

    Hope you get better soon.
