Hey guys,
You guys have been a really supportive community! A lot of things I've heard from my post was that my diary seemed inaccurate. I measure by the volume (ie. one cup, one tbsp, etc.). I believe I am accurate when it comes to cereal, yogurt, packaged food and fast food. But some things such as fruit and meat are hard to measure, there's also the way you cook it. For the most part, I guess them to the best of my ability and if I used oil I just add 1-2 tbsp of vegetable oil to my diary. You guys seem to be more experienced about logging calories and I was just wondering if you guys had any feedback for me.

Thanks for the support
- Jasmine

Use a digital food scale instead of measuring by volume. I would guess that's what most people mean when they say your logging is inaccurate. A half cup of cereal, for example, could be 56 grams when a serving is only 40 grams, and that's a big calorie discrepancy. It may not matter if you have a lot of weight to lose, but if you don't, it will matter.

Weigh meats uncooked. If you can't, check for the usda cooked meat entry. Use the usda entries for everything that you can or scan food bar codes, make sure the calories match what you see on the package, and then enter the serving size you are having.

If the serving size is 1 cup or40 grams and you are only eating 28 grams of it, 28÷40=.7 of the serving, which can show up as .7 cups on here...and some people will always question that, but if you are using a digital scale to weigh everything, you know it is accurate.

A lot of people use a food scale to get a better estimate. It can save some of those measuring cups from the dishwasher.

Some people find weighing food to be too obsessive. Some people think it's crazy. You can certainly lose weight without weighing every little bit of food! But it will help you get the best estimate on calories. :)

Buy a food scale if you want accuracy.
