Sudden loss of strength

Okay so, I'm not sure if it means I have just worked really hard but about a month ago I upped the weight on my lifting and I can feel the progress, I'm stronger in every day life and there is definitely some new muscle. However, I find that sometimes when lifting my arms suddenly start to feel like jelly and I can't even lift very much at all (this is after a few sets of various exercise). Should I drop the weight and continue or is this my muscles telling me I've worked them enough?

It could very well be that you need more rest days.
When it comes to strength training, sometimes less is more
Listen to your body. When I hit the weights, I need a solid 4 days to recover. On that strength training day, I begin with HIIT as a morning warm up, then hit lower body and again after lunch, targeting upper body. It's a three hour routine.
My muscles are dead the following day, and I take a whole day off from any training.
On the 3 following days I do various cardio routines with differing intensities. Rest is paramount.
Maybe this was your issue. Good luck...and keep lifting!
