hey all!

I am wondering if anyone else has issues of dry mouth when eating gluten?? I am trying to figure out the cause of my dry mouth and think it is more m than likely linked with gluten. Thanks!

Dry mouth is linked with gluten intolerance and celiac, I am gluten intolerant myself and gluten makes me suffer badly. Do you have any other symptoms? If you think it is linked to gluten I'd advice you to keep a food diary for a couple of weeks but with one added extra, include your symptoms and times i.e. if you only get dry mouth then put down the times you get it, and duration. Then after a couple of weeks look at your diary and see if there are any correlations between what you have eaten/drunk and your dry mouth.

Thank you Bonny for your response! I will definitely try this. I've had dry mouth for years and have tried everything to help it but nothing has worked. Some of the other symptoms I have or have had in the past year are headaches, upset stomach, diarreah, extreme fatigue, gum recession, numbness and tingling in hands (arthritic symptoms). Have been tested for celiac a but it came back negative. My dr told me that the test isn't always accurate and the best thing to do is an elimination diet to see if it helps. Thanks for your advice! I will give it a try :)

The elimination diet is extremely boring but works a treat. I came back negative too, but was only told to eat gluten for 2 weeks by my GP and my readings were pretty high but not high enough for CD. Now I know better that you need minimum 6 weeks back for a more accurate reading I have decided I cannot possible put my body through it. I used to (still do if glutened) get migraines, extreme nausea and dizziness, bloating (I can go up two clothes sizes in a matter of an hour) cramps, diarrhea (Or projectile vomiting) fatigue, sleep issues, very embarrassing wind, brain freeze, pain in my bones and rashes. I used to plan my day around the bathroom, my life has now completely changed. My partner commented the other day that I have changed so much since going GF. I got more energy, I feel so much better and no need to plan everything. Going to the park for a picnic for example used to be a chore, had to be one with a bathroom and we had to be close to it. now I can live normally and do the same things everyone else does. Just amazing how much a difference cutting gluten from my diet has affected me.

Thank you so much for being so helpful and answering me back so quickly! I received some rude comments from people when I asked this question so thank you for taking the time to help me. I am going to start an elimination diet for six weeks and see how I feel. I will keep track daily of my symptoms. Thank you!! I'll keep you updated

That is a shame, no need for rude comments. People who can eat whatever they want are so lucky. I wish I could. The amount of times I have been around friends who's forgotten I am GF or bought the wrong items and ended up with a late of vegetables and a potato for dinner, or a green salad.... or been in town, forgotten to bring lunch in and been starving all day as I have not found anywhere serving GF... This is not funny at all. Having to give the waiters a 3rd degree interrogation to ensure there will be no cross contamination is a drag. Sure someone stops eating Gluten out of choice but for the majority who are eating GF it is not out of choice, makes eating out difficult at times and people not being supportive really is not helping the matter. I do however love some of the comments I have gotten over the last year, some of my favorites being:

Just try a little bit, surely it won't harm you.
If you fry it, the gluten goes away.
(In restaurants) How much gluten can you tolerate? or we're out of GF bread, have a wrap instead, it has less gluten
OMG this tastes nice! (do people think GF food all tastes horrible?)
But this is GF? me: yes it was GF till you cross-contaminated it, now I cannot eat it.
Can you not just scrape the batter/crumbs away and eat it?

    Welcome to my world lol

Keep me updated how you get on, and feel free to ask me any questions you have about going GF. You will find your cooking skills improves and you'll get more inventive when transforming dishes into GF versions x
