Where is the food database?

Having to google every single thing I eat just to find out the calorie count and input it into my diary is annoying. I thought this app helped you and told you what the calories were for food? Yet it asks me to put it in every time. Where can I find the database where it tells you the calories? I've looked all over this app and can't find it anywhere.

uhhhhh
The diary uses the food database... it takes the nutritional information and displays it to you?
I don't know how to respond.0 -
You can use the Barcode scanner to scan the label of the food you're eating & it will add it automatically or you can search the database.
When you add a food it gives you these options to input nutritional info.0 -
Could you maybe give an example of a food not in the database?0
-
Are you spelling it right?0

First, are you using the phone or the web version? We may be able to help you step by step how to add a food from the database.0

I was told that you write down what you eat and the app is supposed to give you an estimated amount of calories, it asks if it was home cooked, etc but it doesn't. The app asks me to input the calories. I thought there was a database which give you the calories but the diary asks me to input the calories. And I don't always know it. This app isn't helpful with that kind of stuff.0

Here is how you do it on the web version:
1. Click "Food" link to go to your diary, then click "Add Food" under any meal you wish to add to
2. Write the name of the food you want to add and click "Search", or add it from the quick list below
3. Click a food from the list labeled "Matching Foods", the info on the right shows up, and from there you could edit the serving and click "Add Food To Diary" to add it to your diary and record the calories automatically. If you just want to check the calories without adding them click "Nutrition Info".

This sounds like the person isn't even finding food in the database, not wanting to add it.0 -

It sounded to me like she may have been clicking the "create food" button. Who knows, let's hope she provides further explanation.0 -
Thank you for providing the screenshots from the website version. I'm using the app on my phone. When I try to search for food only the food I have created shows up. I have no choice but to create food, because I'm cut off from the database it seems like.0

No... you're selecting the wrong tab.
See the 'recent', 'frequent', 'my foods' tab... https://gyazo.com/509596203bcc135ed3938b75f226a3db0 -

Hmm...
a). Are you sure you're connected to the Internet? Yeah that's a pretty dumb question
b) Are you actually hitting the search button after typing in your food? If you just type the food it'll shrink down the list to your previous entries. If you hit the search button at the bottom right of the screen, that's when it searches the database
Edit: Android has a magnifying glass to the right of the search text box. Both Android and iOS will say "Search all of MyFitnessPal for" underneath your local device search results

User error, not MFP. But we were all new once. The way you did it only brings up items you have previously logged.0

To get better results, instead of "pizza", try something like:
Domino's large pepperoni pizza
For processed foods, use the name brand as much as possible:
Kraft singles cheese slices
And when you're looking for regular/whole/natural food, add "USDA" for your best chance of getting good results.
Like this:
fruit apple usda
tilapia usda raw
chicken breast poached usda ounce
(I usually throw in "ounce" because I don't like converting from the default 100g to ounces, but that's just me.)
Often, you'll have the choice of using raw or cooked weight. As long as you put in which you're using, it really
doesn't matter. Some people only used cooked weight because they say it's more accurate.
Me, I don't want to mess with measuring sticky, hot, wet rice (for example), so I use the raw / uncooked entry.0
