Muscles burn calories, so it could help a bit in preventing fat gain.
However, if you eat in a surplus, you will gain fat, regardless of how much muscle you have and where it is located.
Furthermore, genetics determine where you gain fat. Having ab muscles will not prevent you from gaining fat in your belly.
