When you have about 100 pounds to lose, is it "bad" or inappropriate to lose about a pound a day? If I were to aim to lose a pound a day, is it possible to keep the weight off?

A pound a day?! Ummmmmm, that sounds like a terrible idea...0

How do you suppose you're gonna do that or even still, how are you going to stick to???
I would suggest for you to put yourself more realistic, achievable and more importantly sustainable goals. You'll only upset yourself.0 -
Not good. A pound a day would be eating 3,500 calories less than maintenance, which is nearly impossible unless you are eight feet tall and big-boned, or burning 3,500 calories a day exercising, which is also nearly impossible. Try for half a pound a week. It's better than gaining.0

In the first few weeks you might lose ridiculous amounts like that, mostly water weight though.
A pound a day seems too high to be sustainable.
One pound being 3500 calories.
Say you were able to maintain your weight by eating 4000 calories a day. To lose 1 pound a day you would need to eat 500 calories (not good or fun at all)
Or eat 2000 calories and spend 2-4 hours exercising every day.
Aim for 2 pounds a week, slow and steady, it's a marathon not a sprint.
Enjoy the few weeks/months where because of your size you can still eat a lot of food and lose weight.
Got to balance weight loss with health.0 -
I have about 52 kgs to lose i think thats around 100-120pounds and I am aiming for a loss of 0.75kgs a week. If Im going to lose weight i dont want to suffer. I know it will take a long time but time is going to go by any way. If i restricted anymore i know i wouldnt stick with it.0

It's not impossible or impractical or even unhealthy in the first few weeks... I had that much to lose when I started and even though I ate at exactly my MFP goals for a 2lb./week rate, I lost 6lbs the first week and 4-5 lbs for the first few weeks after that. Now that I'm 40lbs in, the weight loss has slowed, but don't be surprised if it falls off quickly in the beginning. Those of us with lots to lose will have different experiences from those with 50lbs or less to lose. In fact, studies say that people with more weight to lose are more likely to stick to a healthy lifestyle when they see dramatic results early on.0

Well that would depend on what stage you're in. At the beginning (mentioned above) it's possible to lose quite a bit bery quick. But later on not as much and towards the end very little. But yeah 1-2lbs per weeks seems more reasonable.
My goal weight loss is around 100lbs. But rather than focusing on that huge number I set myself mini goals in between. And I take a loss as a loss. So far I've lost 39.2lbs and I'm celebrating day 100 on here. There were weeks when I only lost like half a pound but it all adds up.

You might lose a pound a day at first if you're starting off very heavy and drastically changing your diet. If you go from eating lots of sodium to very little, you might pee off a pound of water a day for a few days. Fat loss takes more time. I lost my first 100 in a little over a year. Concentrate more on changing the bad habits that caused you to gain that 100 lbs. You can do it0

Why don't you just start with 2 pounds a week.0

My goal was 112 pounds. After the initial big drop, I averaged about 2.5 pounds a week for months and months. At some point, you won't have enough fat left to support losses like that, but it's probably not an outrageous rate for a while.0
