Would using the IP diet or an alternative of it (atkins?) work long term for the last 10 lbs? I would love to lose the last bit of weight and it seems to be hovering at the last 10.

It would work if you're eating a calorie deficit, as would any diet. All that matters for the last 10lbs is eating in a deficit, same as the first 10lbs. You just need to make sure you're really accurate with your logging since you'll have less of a deficit so less margin for error.

All diets such as the Atkins are just ways of ensuring that someone is eating at a calorie deficit.

The only thing that works is eating at a calorie deficit; if you find Atkins helps you achieve that or any other diet, then go for it. But at the end of the day, none of them have a 'magic formula' (like they would have you believe) for weight loss. It's alllllllll CICO.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. I think (this is my opinion, not a statement of fact or a prediction) a restrictive diet to kick the last few pounds is more likely to do more harm than good. Weight loss and maintenance are not about reaching number "x", but about *maintaining* (your preferred metric here).

I believe (again, my opinion) that one of the reasons we have (culturally) such an issue with yo-yo dieting is we all live our lives, decide our weight is an issue, adopt extreme dietary measures to reach a goal, then go back to exactly what we were doing before.

Adopting a restrictive plan has (as a thought experiment logical consequence) potential to set you up to over-indulge on foods you have restricted.

Are you willing to stay on Atkins/South Beach/other plan *for the rest of your life*?
Have you thought about how you will *maintain* your weight once you reach your goal?

And is losing another 10 pounds the right goal for you? (Only you can answer that, with whatever informed input you choose to solicit/accept.)

Yeah, I think we all hope that one day they will discover that pill or shake...but i'm sure if they did we would hear more about it :p

I'm at the last 10 or so pounds

It feels better to me to eat at maintenance and exercise it off

After almost two years of diet and exercise, I can now do enough to burn off a pound or so a week.

I just few better burning it off for a change.

I have been on moderate carb the whole time and it is my normal way of eating now.

I can't imagine doing one thing and then changing it all up at the end.

But at the end of the day.... Whatever it takes to get you to home plate!

If you're eating at maintenance then you can't, by definition, exercise it off.
