Fat intake / macros in general

My immediate goal is to lose fat and I'm not sure how to do it successfully. I'm comfortable eating lowish carb and focusing more on healthy fats/proteins, but I keep going over my daily fat goal even when I'm legitimately planning my meals. Sometimes by just 2g, but sometimes by as much as 8g.

My log suggests I fluctuate between around 100-120g carbohydrates, with several outliers at each end: 90, 155, etc.

My fat intake is more consistent and a smaller range, but it would average out to be over my daily goal. I love eggs, fish, cheese, avocado, etc. They make me feel satiated. But should I dial it back?

I'm 5'2" and overweight and I eat around 1300-1350 calories a day. I weigh/measure food pretty consistently. I work out twice a week (Crossfit-type workouts) and do yoga twice a week. Any advice is welcome; I'm lost.

Think of the mfp macros as very rough suggestions. The calorie count is mostly what you need to pay attention to. Going over the fats is perfectly o.k. :)

Don't stress about that 8g of fat. If you do better with more fat, set your fast goal to a level where you do better.

Weight loss is about calories. Macros are about what makes it easiest to meet your calorie goals.

Wonderful!! Thanks all. I'm glad to hear that. I didn't think I was going overboard, but I was second-guessing. I think I'll work on fewer carbs (just veggies and moderate fruit) because I think that will help bring my overall calories down too.

You could tweak your macro settings a bit to match what you're eating.

I gave up cheese b/c of its saturated fat.

I love my cheese, nobody could stop me eating it!

I'm over my fat macro on an almost daily basis. As long as you are under the calorie goal and are eating fruit and veg don't worry about it.

Same here tbh. But even with not eating a lot of cheese, I am often over my fat macro too; I don't worry about it as long as I get my fiber count too and as long as I'm not overdoing the carbs. Although I do eat a lot of vegs and fruits as they are good for you :)

I have the opposite problem! I grew up with 'low fat' diets (Rosemary Conley) being in fashion, and I really struggle to reach the fat macro, but I'm way over on protein!

    This.

If you have the MFP default macros and are intentionally eating under the carb goal (which is fine), then you will have to eat over the other goals (or at least one of them), and that likely means fat.

Either don't worry about it or adjust the goals to what you want to aim for based on your protein and carb goals and calories (fat will be the leftover calories -- there are 9 calories/gram for fat).

Why, oh why, is the first advice "give up cheese"?
