Hi all,
I've always struggled with an 'all or nothing' mentality in regards to weight loss. Today a student gave me a cupcake as a gift. I have resisted chocolates, lolly bags, catered morning teas AND a wedding etc this week but ended up eating the small cake. A (large) part of me felt so guilty and I have resisted the urge to binge ALL DAY as I triggered myself by eating it.
I've just come back from an hour at the gym and wonder if anyone else struggles with setting rules with food or feeling as if they ban themselves from certain types of food. Due to having a disordered mindset with food, I have been advised not to count calories or macro at this stage.
It feels like as soon as I have one 'bad' thing, it's all over red-rover. Is it possible to have a 'normal' relationship with food?

Cup cakes are not bad, they are yummy and there is no problem eating one. The problem comes when you eat a full pack.
If you want a normal relationship with food then stop labelling foods as good or bad. Over eating is the enemy not a food type or group.0 -
Hi! I really hear you on the 'all or nothing' mind set. It's been the primary reason my weight has yo-yo-ed. I'm trying really hard to allow myself 'treats', log them and leave it at that. It's going against a good 10 years of behaviour patterns. I was the classic "well, I've wrecked it, I'll start tomorrow" and stuff myself. There are some foods which I consider trigger foods that I don't keep in the house but I haven't banned myself from anything. It's fair game if it's fits within my calorie allowance. I do try to limit those particular foods those because they're very calorie dense and don't really add anything to my macros. Easier said than done though!0
