Please give me some numbers!
I'm a 58 yo woman. 5'8" tall. 200#.
I had total knee and total hip replacements 8 months ago. I need to build the muscles back especially in my lower body and have little strength in my left side.
I also need to lose about 30 to 40 pounds at least.
Please just tell me what to do so I do it right!
Thank you for your time and guidance! !

put your stats into MFP, and it'll give you a number.

do you have physio for your knee/hip?

I did the doctor recommended PT for 3 months. Now the doctor told me I have a limp due to muscle loss. I have been swimming and exercising in the pool. Stair climbing at home. And my stretches every morning.
Also....my surgical leg is now 1" longer.

Sounds like you are off to a good start! MFP will help with the weight loss. Many folks here suggest setting it for losing 1 lb/week.

Has your PT given you some suggestions for exercise? Using the pool sounds like a great idea. Can you include biking?

MFP can certainly help you with the weight loss. As above, enter your info, aim for 1 lb a week, buy a food scale and weigh and measure all food and liquids.

For strengthening your lower body, especially the left side, I would say a recommendation by your doctor for further rehab, and specific asymmetrical strength building, would be the way to go.
Is there a reason for the 1' difference? If not it would be good to talk that through too. Coping with a leg length disparity can easily lead to back problems.

    Cheers, h.

( my left leg is over .5 inches shorter than my right, no problems, but that was because I was 14 when it happened. My SIL, on the other hand, used a shoe lift, without it she is in agony after a day of lopsided walking.)
