Tracking my Dance Dance Revolution XD (classic)

Do you think using Dance Matts in Workout Mode after they tell me how many KCals I burn, is accurate? and I should record that data provided?

I want to accurately measure my Dance Dance Revolution so I have a question if anyone knows! Because how I did it before seemed now a little BS logic of me thinking about it, it seemed like I was trying to overestimate and make myself feel better. I use DDR as a fun yet intense way to exercise (I do the two hardest difficulties)

Thank you!

    Homg, I used to love DDR!! I lost weight doing it at least an hour a day (and effing loving it the whole time) several years ago. I haven't played it in years!!!! Ok, so to answer your question....I'm not sure, lol. But I wonder if you get a heart rate monitor or something independent of the game that would help calculate your calorie burn if that would help. Or just log what it says but don't eat the calories back, or only eat half back. Ugh, now I want to work out with you, lol. I think I still have my mat somewhere........

    Hahaha I'd absolutely loved it if you worked out with me! Even if it's on a virtual basis, I know it's not just as fun because you can't see the crazy chaos that goes on! But I wouldn't mind having a DDR partner! :D you need to find the lost mat and we need to DDR! If you don't mind dancing with a 21 year old, that is XD

    And haha I was thinking of that but I'm on a very tight budget due to some legal conspiracy *kitten* that got my family and I kicked out of our own chemical engineering company (we're fighting back though and we're going at it strong) so the independent heart rate monitor or other independent thing is out of question temporarily. However I'm thinking, is there another app that perchance connects to MFP that counts how many steps you did, and then calibrates those results at the rate you did it and automatically adds it to your MFP account? XD

    Try logging the calories it gives you and eat back 75-100% of them. If you find your weight loss stalling or stopping, adjust and eat back 50-75% of them (or log them as half of what it's saying you're burning).

    I used to play DDR Max (I believe) and was quite good at it (also played on the top difficulties) and even mastered a few of the challenge songs that don't let you choose difficulty. They definitely build up a sweat. I have to imagine it is comparable to Zoomba or step aerobics, etc... I don't remember what workout mode used to spit out for calories, but how does that compared to those kinds of exercise in the database?

    The mats, PS2, and game should be in my parents basement. I should bring it home and try playing it with my kids. I think the last time we tried was 3 years ago.

    i love DDR, its the best cardio workout ever. I used to wear an arm band to track calories and DDR burned as much as jogging, for me.

    Yah if you're on heavy and not taking a ton of breaks in between songs it's as good as any zumba/arobics class. I still have a cobalt flux metal pad downstairs - and with a laptop/TV you can run Stepmania with hundreds more songs. Still have my PS2 and all the disks just for this. :)

    But as to the original question, no, the screen cal burn is just a guess and I wouldn't use it. 400/hr would be a safe guess for anyone under 200~

    Depends. Did you enter your height, weight, etc? If not, it's using a general average to calculate, probably similar to what MFP does. I'd log what it says and experiment with how much to eat back. Even if you did enter your data, it has no way of checking your heart rate, so it's still not going to be fully accurate.

    Man, now I want to get mine set back up. I really wish my PS1 hadn't broken, the one I had for that had the best songs! ^_^;;
