Afternoon All,
I have just done a Tabata class, I worked very hard in the class and could see that I was sweating more in this class more than a spin class. How many calories would a 30 min class burn?

    We can't tell you.

    Invest in a HRM.

A HRM will not be of much use. Tabata is very difficult to estimate becayse much of the calorie burn happens after in the form of epoc. Theres also no idea how much of that 30 mins was active Tabata as a lot of classes give themselves the name, but dont actually conform to the format. Tabata is 20s on 10 secs off x8 for a total of 4 minutes. If you wnat a guesstimate id just go for a medium to high intensity versuon of whatever you were doing and adjust by results. It will be more than 100c and less than 500.

at the conclusion the 20-minute Tabata sessions, which indicates that subjects were progressively accumulating lactate (e.g., above lactate steady state) (Foster and Cotter, 2005). Caloric expenditure averaged 14.5 ± 2.7 kcal·min-1,

Sweating, feel and a HRM are all very poor indicators of calorie burns for Tabata or HIIT.

Pick a number a bit less than you would estimate for a moderately hard steady state effort and that will be near enough.

    Don't over-think what you can't measure.
