Squat challenges any good?

I am on Day 6 of a squat challenge, 100 bodyweight squats a day for a month. I have never done squats before, and have made sure I am stretching before and after which helps a lot with the pain and recovery. Just wondering if these kind of challenges are any good, as I just got told they are a waste of time and there is no real benefit from doing it...

    I did the 30 day squat challenge and at the end of the 30 days I really noticed that climbing stairs was a lot easier.

    Basically you'll have a higher endurance for body weight squats at the end of it.
