Hi, I just finished a 4-week workout program (Erin Stern's Elite Body). It was great, and now I am contemplating on whether I should continue with it or try something new.

I heard a lot of good things from real life friends about StrongLifts 5x5, I'm just wondering if any people want to share their experience with the program?

I have a few specific questions though if you guys don't mind :

- I usually work out by myself.. would I need to start working out with someone when I start this program so someone could spot me?
- Were you guys able to increase by 5lbs increments every time? Or did you have to use microweights?

If you use a cage or half rack most of your exercises will be safe enough if you fail a lift

You may have to hold off on progression if you are failing sets or struggling to complete them but I don't know about anyone working with less than 5lb increments.

I still haven't found micro plates and didn't feel like buying some online. I did increase mostly for squat and deadlift with only little stalls when I followed 5x5. Bench press not as much and overhead press even less. Rows and me just don't get along, so that one increased some but struggled some. I work out by myself and manage to bench without a spotter. No problems so far.

There is also a group on here for women who do stronglifts, though many do others things as well.

I ran it for 25 weeks before moving on. I did it at home and was just careful not to overload myself. I started with just a squat rack and moved up to a cage after a few weeks. I did get fractional plates so I could go up by 2.5 lbs on my OHP and Bench. Women tend to be stronger with their legs so it's pretty common to need smaller plates for upper body work. The most important thing is to learn proper form however you can (trainer or videos).

Thanks everyone I think I will do more research to ensure my form is correct and will try out stronglifts :)

@TnTWalter yes she was fantastic! I got noticeable results from following her program and counting calories !
