Sodium Intake

So MFP is suggesting somewhere around 2000mg salt intake daily. I am going to the gym and sweating everyday for 40-60 minutes. Is it okay to increase my intake or is it still bad to do that?

Unless you have a medical reason to carefully watch your sodium intake or are worried about a little bloating/water retention, I wouldn't stress about it too much. Do you eat a lot of processed foods that contain a lot of sodium? I try to minimize the amount of processed foods I eat, buy low sodium when available, and try to over salt my food when I cook.

Standard is 2300, are you sure you're reading that correctly?

No, it's mostly eating out that gets me close to the limit or over. I go to restaurants at lunch and get soup, salad and/or sandwiches within my calorie budget, but they tend to be heavy on the salt in cooking & creation.

Since you have no medical condition, the only problem this will create, is water retention, (which can mask a loss).

The more you workout and sweat, the greater your threshold for sodium (unless advised by a medical professional).

Also, increased potassium and water intake combats sodium in your diet.

The 2300 accounts for people doing normal exercise or living in hot climates and sweating. There is no reason to take in extra sodium because you worked out for an hour.

If on a normal diet I wouldnt worry about it.
If following the Ketogenic plan then you need 5000mg/day. Along with potassium and magnesium.

I wouldn't bother to actively increase but I also wouldn't worry about going over, either. If I'm consistently over for a few days in a row and not sweating/exercising much, I'll hang on to some water weight and get puffy and feel gross from being swollen up. It goes away after I'm back on track for 2-3 days.

If you have no medical conditions, just keep an eye on your intake and how you feel and increase/decrease if and as needed.
