Sometimes it helps if OPs provide a few more details, saves us googling.

Anyways looking at the reviews on Amazon it looks like its low carb vegan diet though apparently it does allow for a small amount of animal products for non-vegans/vegetarians.

Reviews also indicates that he is anti any other type of diet including calorie counting.

As someone who likes meat and dairy it isn't for me.

know people who it worked for, but both were them was also a heat attack survives, and was lowering their cholesterol, and it has worked for him long term. AS other people have said, cutting too much stuff out (tying this as I am eating chicken soup and a role.) I have Lost over 140 pounds burning more calories then i eat. My cholesterol has lowered myself by eating a well balanced diet, yet not cutting anything out completly, just cutting back on a lot of stuff.

I don't hold with prescriptive diets because they don't work for me...as with most people I will stick to a diet as long as I am motivated and then I will stop and revert to my " normal" lifestyle which involved eating too many calories and moving too little ..hence decades of losing weight and putting on more..eg yo-yo

I don't do that any more ...month 16 of a new, 56lb lighter me ...6 months at goal

So let me ask you something OP (original poster)... How many diet plans have you tried in your lifetime? Bored of it yet?

I don't understand how a highly restrictive diet is an end to dieting...

The idea is that it's more burdensome to think about calories or even portion size and being able to eat "as much as you want" = not a diet.

    I don't agree either.

It wasn't until I STOPPED doing the Furhman, followed by the 17 day followed by Isagenix (totally suckered into THAT one) that I started losing and keeping it off. I lost 30 before starting here by cutting back on the amounts of all things then 20ish here by fine tuning that.

Well, doesn't seem like anyone who has responded has read his book or followed his program. It's a whole food, plant based diet. After the first week or so (detoxing from bad foods), I have never felt better...

What toxins did you have? Sounds horrid!

But there was one response above where someone claimed they started losing weight *after* she stopped the Fuhrman diet.

The guy appears often of Dr. Oz, that's enough to scare me away.

His earlier book from around 2004, Eat to Live, focused a lot on portion control while eating a plant based diet about 90% of the time.

I've never tried it, but I do want to at least read his books at some point to see if there is anything I might want to incorporate into my diet. I probably wouldn't convert fully to his recommendations (I'm a carnivore at heart!) by I would definitely consider some adjustments if I think it makes sense. A good friend of mine has read all of his books, and she has said very good things about how she feels when eating the way he recommends. SHe really does rave about him. FYI, the guy is highly respected and an ivy league educated doctor...so he's not some quack with a fitness blog. It certainly can't hurt to try following his plan...more veggies never hurt anyone.

I did "Eat to Live" for a couple of weeks several years ago. It left me feeling very hungry, unhappy, and lethargic.

@2009jewellz what are your health goals? Sometimes it helps to discuss whether you want to get your diabetes in check or lower cholesterol, etc. It helps us understand why you'd want (or need) to do such a restrictive diet for the rest of your life.

Really though, you all are rude a.f. It is no wonder as to why the OP has not come back to respond.

OP, following a WFPB "diet" is trending at the moment. Once you get off the sugar, its a nice whole way to eat.

I really didn't see anyone seeing rude, and I'm sensitive and emotional a.f.

Pretty much any diet will work if you follow it and every diet has some people who fail.
