My MIL who is a diet and and health food junkie tells me you shouldn't have any food with your Protein shake it won't work if you do. She says it is mean to be a meal replacement. I drink my at work with my cottage cheese and half a tomato and or a banana. What is everyone's thoughts on this subject?

She is wrong. It is meant to be a supplement, not a meal replacement.

A protein shake is a protein supplement. If you are not meeting protein goals a protein shake helps. A protein shake is NOT the same thing as a meal replacement shake.

A meal replacement shake (ideally) includes protein, fat, fiber, and micronutrients.

I hope not!! I use a ninja and add fruits, spinach, oats and milk along with my protein powder to make a smoothie.

When your mil says it "doesn't work"... Doesn't work how exactly??

now that's new one! never heard oh that before, anyway I don't think that's true at all, and all I can tell you is that every night I have a home made protein shake as complement to my dinner and is working wonderful.

I've always had snacks/meals with my protien shakes. It's a supplement...not sure why they said otherwise.
