Burning calories

Do you burn a bit more calories in high humidity? I just went on a walk through a four Mile wet sauna, and I just want to feel a little better about feeling like a dripping rag. Boob sweat is no joke. If you do burn more, how minimal do you think it is? I'm sure it doesn't make a huge difference, I'm just curious if it's any difference at all

Sweat isn't a sign of burning more cals. Just like hot yoga really doesn't burn more cals than regular yoga.

So the temperature and humidity of an environment doesn't effect anything? Michigan just wants to torture me :'(

If any, it would be so minimal that it isn't worth worrying about

Cold would be more likely to burn calories than heat. If you think Michigan is hot, try Florida.

Nope, never noticed that humidity helps with weight loss. I do think fresh air does us good, whether it helps burn calories or not, :)

Florida humidity and Michigan humidity can be quite similar, actually. I'm not a fan of bug mating season over there. The worst humidity I ever experienced was in Missouri. Made me break out like a teenager. No thank you

Heat reduces your caloric expenditure; keeping warm in a cold environment increases it.

The requirement to avoid overheating and passing out would also result in your body slowing things down, again reducing the calories burned.

It really wouldn't be worth much. As for boob sweat, the struggle is real :frown:

I feel your misery...I'm in Ohio and found my run very laborious tonight due to the humidity. I ended up walking part of it

They're probably thinking of those skinny little jockeys who practically live in the sauna before races...

I feel your boob sweat pain, and that's just walking in temps around 20℃! (I'm from UK, don't know how people in warmer countries cope with it!) :D

Same here, I loathe the heat.. A sunny but cool day in the UK is just perfect.

Boob sweat is a killer.. I get extra wet from my Heart Rate Monitor there too.. :/

The air is wet here as well. :/

Hrm. Let's see. Teeny amounts of kcal are used to keep your body temp 98.6, so maybe if it's well over 98.6? But I don't think that counts for much.

    I can't wait for autumn.

I love the heat, humidity is horrible though. I like neither now that I've started running. I also don't like running in full sun, ugh. Takes me back to dance school days, a studio with no air con in near 100% summer humidity in Auckland, New Zealand. I think I'd pass out if I tried it now! I live in London and it gets pretty humid here, it's been quite a cool summer though this year.
