step calories confusion

my phone tracks my steps. today i walked over 14000 steps and it says i burnt 500 calories. normally i walk 10,000 steps.so do i eat back these calories and is the burn even accurate?

I feel that you need a heart monitor to see calories burned0

The typical suggestion around here is to eat back half of your exercise calories. This is because most trackers that do not have a heart rate monitor over-estimate calorie burn. Leaving half uneaten allows for that margin of error.
Personally, I don't usually eat back my exercise calories, at all. But it's nice to know they're there if I'm randomly feeling weak or super hungry.0 -

An HRM is not going to give an accurate reading in terms of measuring all-day activity.
It'll be a case of trial and error. A good start point is to eat back 1/2 the extra calories. If you're losing too fast or you're struggling with hunger then eat a bit more. Losing too slow then eat a bit less.0
