You wouldn't like me when I'm HANGRY

I generally eat a fairly high protein diet. I eat little and often rather than just a couple of big meals a day. However if I go a certain period without food I get incredibly Hangry! I snap at my partner, cry down the phone at my mother, hate my life and feel like nobody gets me. I NEED food. Within 5 minutes of eating something I'm grand and order is restored.

The trick now is to carry snacks in the bag, I get that. But after work I sometimes have to rush to my other work and its not always possible to eat to a schedule.

Are there certain foods that will keep the hanger at bay and keep me satisfied for longer?

Fats, proteins and fibrous foods will keep you full the longest.

Yup, you just need to plan for this.

figure out how to plan your snacks. Any snacks will do the job- some are better than others- but having SOMETHING is better than nothing at all.

I get really hangry in the afternoon - so I back load my day- I skip breakfast and only eat in the afternoon. 12-1 I eat- then something around 2 or 3- and then around 7. I have a big meal around 10:30.

Just find a way to manage it- no one else can do it for you- and quiet frankly it's annoying to others have to deal with and it's emotionally draining to hit that level of emotional investment so frequently (ask me how i know- god bless my patient boyfriend LOL)

I feel ya on the hangriness. My dad finally told me the other day that I turn into an utter grump when I get hungry. So far my solution has been to make baggies full of snacks ahead of time, and to plan on bringing a snack to work every day.

Right now, I have one bag full of celery and peanut butter (the PB is in a container), one bag with peppered jerky, and one bag with raw walnuts. I measure them out before putting them in bags and grab whichever one I feel like or my macros allow for the day. After that, it's just grab and go.

I get really hangry too if I go too long without food. I used to never have this problem when I was bigger. I guess my hormones are all whacky now lol. I just make sure I always have a protein bar on me :joy:

@LenGray thanks for the snack tips! I tend to reach for fruit but when I'm in the hangry zone fruit just doesn't do the trick.

I carry fibre powder with me. 2 teaspoons is 8 calories and 10g of fibre. I just add it to a glass or bottle of water or even a protein shake. Fills the gap when I don't have time to stop for anything.

@GillianLF, No problem :) I used to go for fruit as my snack, but I had the same problem of still being hungry after a few minutes. Now, I usually go for the more filling stuff (as mentioned above) and save my fruit for adding to my breakfasts or as a dessert.
