Does MFP count car travels?

Hi, I am really new to this but am highly motivated mainly because within the last 4 days (since i started) i have lost about a Kilo already and feel better. But I doubt I am doing the steps the app says I am doing. Today for example I walked a bit but not a lot. But the app shows 11000 steps and 350 calories burnt. I was driving for about 2.5 hours today and was wondering if the app confused the travel time to steps!
Is there anybody here who felt the same?
Cheers,
Viji

Viji,
MyFitnessPal, doesn't count steps, the device you are wearing counts them than transfers the count to MFP.
Some step counters have been known to count things such as driving because the constant hand motion can imitate the arm motion when walking.
Monitor when this happens, maybe adjust how you wear your device, and just disregard the excess calories.
Sorry I couldn't help more,

Where are the steps coming from? Is it just based on using your phone as pedometer?
If so, it depends on the model of phone, but in general most phones are accurate for at least treadmill testing (and are in fact more accurate for that than most fancy pedometers). If it is a phone and it is kept on a vibrating surface, it will of course be in accurate and get extra steps.
Now would it actually take your GPS? First that isn't how they figure steps. Second, even at 10mph on average, 2.5 hours of driving is a lot a more distance than you could walk in 11,000 steps.0 -
Why would you want it to? Track only what you purposely burn, not daily activities0

Your activity tracker must be counting those drives. My dad drove from Ohio to western Ontario last month and the tracker on his phone picked up well over 10,000 steps in that time.0

Hi, thank you for all the replies.
I am using iPhone's Health app to track my steps. I did not know that there is an option to take into account only what you purposely burn. I will try and see if I can change it.

Some people have very active days followed by more sedentary ones. MFP allows one setting. When this happens FitBit wearers (for example) will set a level of sedentary and get added calories for days when they are waiting tables (again, an example).
FitBit wearers use their devices for maintenance too. The calorie adjustment helps them stay on track. A setting for negative adjustments could result in lazy FitBit wearers getting calories taken away.
Another reason to track activity.....perhaps it motivates a person to move more. A daily goal of 10,000 steps for example.
OP - some activity trackers are famous for tracking steps (when the car is moving). Turn your app off or take calories away.0
