Shin Splints

Has anyone had trouble with these? This is probably going to sound funny, but I work in downtown Chicago and a couple of weeks ago, I had to run full speed through Union Station to catch my train. I did this a couple of days in a row. I was wearing flats, not gym shoes, which I have now switched to. Anyways, I think doing that caused me to get shin splints. Whenever I do cardio now they start killing me. I iced them and rested for a couple of days and they felt better for a while, but now all of a sudden they are killing me again every time I put pressure on them during cardio. I'm not a runner or anything so im talking jumping jacks, butt kicks, etc. I dont know what to do! They are causing me to struggle during my workout and it's driving me crazy. Has anyone had experience with this? Any suggestions on how to get rid of them and stay rid of them? Anything would be helpful. Thanks!

I went jogging for the first time on Sunday, and my god were my shins killing me! I think they're brought on by not wearing proper shoes, and also from running on Tarmac rather than grass. Please don't quote me on this, I'm sure someone will tell me if I'm wrong!

Anyway, I rested them for two days and they still hurt - yesterday I went swimming and today they feel like normal legs again! YAY :drinker:

So that way I got in a good exercise whilst not putting too much strain on my shins. I will jog again, I'm hoping It'll be better the second time!! Good luck

I'm constantly having trouble with these now that it's spring and I'm running outside. I was told it was the combination of 1. bad shoes and 2. running on concrete. I switched to better shoes and I try and run on a trail when possible but it's much more convenient to run around my neighborhood on concrete.

Unfortunately I haven't found a cure for them yet. Some weeks they're fine and other weeks I'm unable to run at all.
