Significant figures! Time to go back to 8th grade physics!0

how often is this happening, I wonder, and I'm not paying attention. hmmmmm0

You know, I've noticed that MFP doesn't show decimal places in nutritional information, even when it's entered. I do wonder if the decimal is still there though - just not being shown. Some thing could have .x fat to equal up to that rounded 10.0

They round the entry, yes. The total? First for me.0 -
least it rounds up now down.0

::laugh:: Yeah, I expect it's a rounding thing but that's funny! If it's rounding I would imagine it should happen a lot.0

Visually rounded for your convenience per entry, but still added with whatever accuracy was used for totals.
The reason the C - F - P don't add up correctly is most of those nutrition labels don't either. They don't have to, they are allowed their own rounding.
Because total calories should be 450, IF the gram counts were correct.0 -

Yeah, I've thought about that in connection with recipes. I think it is there, and this illustrates it.0 -
I have the same problems w/ my macros percentages some times...
Sometimes my total of all 3 (Carbs, Protein, and Fat) will be 99% or 101%
I have never noticed it in my food diary though...
And, yes, thankfully it round sup, not down, or we all may be eating more than we think!0 -

Well I know that MFP rounds up every entry, if it's 1.5g of fat it will say 2g.. but rounding up from 9 to 10 in a meal just sounds silly (plus it's probably rounding up twice!).0 -

Two of the zero entries could be .3 or .4 and add up to .6 - .8 which would round up to 1, but separately round down to 0 each.0 -
Yeah, this is a simple case of the interface displaying whole numbers only when it comes to your diary. The actual decimal value is there but MFP doesn't show it. It still adds the decimals and then you get that total of 10 instead of 9 which could actually be any decimal value between 10 and 11. They should show everything to the nearest hundredth.0

Tis what I was thinking.
.3 for Raspberries and probably some .X on one of the others.

One or more of the "0" entries are likely 0.2 or something... 3 of those and you have 0.6 so 9.6 rounds to 10.
Since labels are allowed to be up to 20% off anyway, its not earth shattering. Everything is approximate! Luckily so is your calories out... Just using a moving target to hit a moving target0 -
What's the problem? It's just rounding.
I've seen far more egregious errors in data from user-provided items.0 -
Another thing I noticed... the amount of "total" calories on my food diary page will be off a little when compared to the total calories for that day as listed on my News Feed Page. For example, right now, my food diary for the day says I have eaten: 776cals but my newsfeed total say 774. Not a big deal, but I wonder why?0
-
Spaghetti code. I've seen bigger, again probably related to those decimal values.
Someone made a new formula for News Feed Page (when they redid it probably), without asking if there was a value field they could just poll from the Food Diary page already existing.
Bad communication between teams. Well, at least a normal business in that regard.0 -

Which one? Yogurt is 0, raspberries is 0, veggies is 0, ketchup is 0...
That's what I don't understand, lol.0 -

Raspberries aren't exactly zero. I agree that there are probably 10ths of grams adding up. I suspect the turkey has a partial and the raspberries definitely do. See here, I checked 51g of raspberries with the Usda ...
Oh that must be it then... I looked at the entry I use and yeah, it shows some fat for bigger amounts.0
