Foot Wraps

Hey,

I had a question about foot wraps... My Mom suggested that I start wrapping my feet for added support. I have plantar fasciitis and heel spurs in both feet (I have high arches). I also wear orthodics from my podiatrist's office, that doesn't seem to have given me much relief. I've been wearing them for over a year every single day. Anyways, when I wrap my feet for daily stuff, it does feel better, and for once, I'm not seeing my arches swollen. They are ALWAYS swollen. This may be a stupid question.. But do you wrap your feet on walks(I only walk) or runs? I tried it the other day, and the outside of my foot starting getting a bad dull ache. Is that just because that part is not used to the extra support? If I keep wearing it on my walks, will the ache go away? I'm not making a foot doctor appointment any time soon, by the way.

Um, I'd check with your podiatrist. If you've been wearing them for this long without relief, then you need them to remake them.
My hips and back feel 100% better since starting to wear mine.
No more shin splints and no more heel spurs

I don't think wrapping your feet knowing you are going to walk or run sounds like a very good idea. Your feet will swell and you could reduce/cut off circulation.

My suggestions: ice your feet (use bags of frozen veggies), wear supportive shoes, stretch your feet before you get out of bed or have been sitting for a long period of time, use a golf or tennis ball to roll your feet over. I also found wearing a night splint was very helpful.

Disclaimer: I am not a podiatrist but I went through 2 pretty nasty bouts of PF. It sucks.

Definitely see a podiatrist or better yet, an orthopedist who specializes in Sports medicine. If you are not getting relief, you need to find out exactly what is going on.

I have degenerative osteoarthritis in my right foot (cuneiforms, calcaneus, and cuboid) so my instep swells. I use compression socks and shoes that can lace in such a way that I can get even pressure all along the instep. The podiatrist diagnosed PF and prescribed inserts that just made it worse. The ortho did both x-rays and an MRI and diagnosed the actual problem and told me (what I already knew) that I need to stay away from inserts. I get an occasional flare-up but I can still walk 7 miles daily.

I am glad you finally got the correct diagnosis and can still walk a lot. It is difficult when one feels searing pain with every step they take.

  • I also have terrible problems with plantar fasciitis. I recently started using kinesio tape and it has worked wonders!!! The second I put it on, my pain just went away...I can't even describe it. I went from being constantly grouchy with chronic pain to finally being normal and happy again. When the pain is worse, I use a combo of generic self-adhesive sports tape from the drug store and a brand called KT tape, which you can buy at Walmart. When the pain is minor, I just use the KT tape. There are a couple different methods you can try out, but here are some links!!!

Thanks everyone! I'll avoid wearing them on my walks, but will wear them for other daily stuff! I'm not going to the podiatrist any time soon because I can't afford it just yet. I saw him 8 times in 2014 and it takes a toll. Plus all of my PTO is reserved right now.

I'm going to even see a completely new doctor when I am able to go. Mine is a bit rude.

High arches usually go along with tight calf muscles, and tight calves sometimes cause PF. So see if frequent stretching helps. Frequent meaning every 30-60 minutes, since the effects don't last long. Here's how:

Hold for 30+ seconds. You should know within 2 days if it helps. If it does, post your results. :+1:
