Squats vs Arthritis

Please help. Gravity has taken a toll on my backside and I need help getting it back into place. Everything I've read is all squats squats squats but my arthritis can't handle more than 3-5 and me still be able to walk the rest of the day. I've tried a few Googled moves over the last few days but my butt isn't sore at all (which makes me think they might not be working). I'm in pretty good shape and have stamina otherwise. I just gotta take it easy on my wrists and knees. Thanks!

At 40 yrs old, I also have bad knees. Before I started working out 8 weeks ago, I was sure I would need a double knee replacement by 50 lol. As I build muscle around the knees, the pain is actually not near as bad as it was. Yeah, I still act like an "old man" when I get out of bed in the morning but after I stretch a little, pain is gone. Just thought I'd share my experience. Hope it helps.

Most people have better "knees" than they think. If you have RA, then yes special considerations need to be taken, but other than that squat on with adjusted volume or intensity (reps/sets or weight). The only way to lubricate joints is moving them.

Also just like Uncleryno said, some of the pain is just DOMS from muscle soreness.

Now to answer your actual question, you can throw in lots of hip thrust, banded side walks, donkey kicks, banded leg lifts and stiff legged dead lifts.

I recommend wall squats. They give less pressure on knees.

    I second these suggestions.
You could consider getting the strong curves book. The author is known as the "glute guy" and knows all about building butts.

Swimming busts my butt ( literally! ) and doesn't strain my multiple arthritic joints
