Coconut oil

First, while researching, I have read how healthy coconut oil is and all its benefits etc, then a certain doctor advised me to take 1 tsp of coconut oil every hour to keep my blood sugar levels down but I didn't feel comfortable with that as my cholesterol is high and I am at risk for heart disease. Then I see my GP who gives me a pamphlet that says "coconut oil is a saturated fat and like any other fat should be eaten in moderation. Then I watch a documentary that says sugar is the new fat. What the heck am I supposed to believe?! and what do you believe is true?

1 tbsp every hour? You're taking nutritional advice from a doctor? Do you also take legal advice from a mechanic?0

Sarcasm, thanks for that. It was actually 1 tsp every hour from a person who is not a medical doctor and if you had read my post properly you would see that I DID NOT take his advice. Any other questions?

Doesn't sound like your research included any scientific studies/literature on fats in general or coconut oil specifically.0

"certain doctor"... could be any doctor... doesn't really narrow it down; so I assumed M,D.

The weight loss industry promotes fads whenever some random study links one thing to weight loss or weight gain. This keeps you cleaning out your cupboard every six months and buying the next big thing, putting more money in their pockets. That's why so many people here focus on CICO. Because no matter what food you are eating, CICO ultimately determines whether you gain or lose weight.
Sugar IS the new fat... it's the new devil that the media and the weight loss industry will use to get people to buy more books and more supplements and more diets. In a few years, it will be something else...
I just try to eat as many whole, fresh foods as possible and include a wide variety of veggies. Then I have ice cream and a beer0 -

1tsp of coconut oil would equal around 600-700 calories if you took it every hour for 8 hours! So yes, it was best to ignore that little nugget.
As for the sugar thing, no it is not the new fat, Excess calories are..
I watch my calories first, and my macros (carbs, protein, fat) second. I try and hit my protein and fat goals everyday and let the carbs fall where they may. Obviously healthy nutrition is important, and you shouldn't consume a boatload of sugar, fat and carbs at the expense of micros(vitamins/minerals) and protein every single day.
But to keep it simple for now... Get your calories under control, and once you are comfortable with this, keep an eye on your macros as well0 -

Your words where certain doctor. So any rational person would've assumed you meant a medical doctor.

Just wanted to +1 this. I started by just watching my calories, then I paid attn to protein which helped me feel more full with those calories (tbh, getting my fat in was never a problem LOL).0 -

Coconut oil is like any other food, eat it in moderation if you enjoy it.

Dude's a chiropractor, not an MD.
Just a little bit of advice...
Just because someone has a Doctorate and has the title Doctor... it does not mean they are necessarily giving advice in the field that they have the Doctorate in.
For example, Dr Phil, the infamous idiot has a Doctorate in Psychology... yet he sells "weight loss programs" and advertises fad diets...
Always research someone who is giving you medical advice.
Oh and never take nutritional advice from a Doctor... even though a small amount may give you some correct advice, just don't. I think within their 5 year course or whatever, they get around 6 hours nutritional education. I also had a Doctor saying what whey protein was not a food to me the other day... derrrpppp0 -

It's very relevant, as I said in my previous post; if someone has a Doctorate in Radiography and is giving me nutritional advice... I'm instantly not going to listen to it....
If someone has a Doctorate in Nutrition on the other hand, I will listen to it and do my own research on it.0 -
Is the chiropractor related to Mark's Daily Apple? Oh wait, they are both chiropractors. . . nvm0

Um...the number of posts you've made is right under your username. No big secret.
Only if you're on a computer. Post counts don't show on a phone, well not mine anyway

Avatars on mobile, yes, but no post counts. I hate forum-ing on my phone, and only do it when I'm having a reeeeally hard time sleeping.0
