That's a pretty low threshold for "interesting."0

Oh, for pete's sake. It's not the sugar in soda that has any effect on your bones. It's the phosphorous. And it's only a problem if you're drinking multiple cans of soda a day, which is a foolish thing to do anyway.
Phosphorous keeps calcium trapped in your bloodstream, rather than allowing it to be absorbed into the cells in your bones. Over time, this can cause osteopenia. This can be prevented by not drinking large quantities of soda, by taking calcium supplements, adding calcium-rich foods to your diet, and by adding weight-bearing exercise to your fitness regimen.

Bleh, the only good thing about that article was the photo of the kid at The Varsity. I recognize where it was shot.0

Naivety is part of the reason many people don't really understand how physiology works. Of course I'm seeing all sorts of Coke drinkers wearing insulin pumps these days.
Drinking a can of Coke or 2 a day. Fine. Drinking 2 liters or more a day, not ideal.

aaaahhhh....nothing like a little fear mongering....
I'm really not a soda person or anything, but the incessant fear mongering on MFP is ridiculous....

Re calcium supps - I've read they might not support bone health at all, and instead create free-floating calcifications attached to random tissue0 -

If sugar is a bone-killer, why does your body need sugar to build bones?0

Agreed. Quite honestly, the research on it sounds soft. The clinical trial was way too short. Its such a shame when research fails to go the distance or doesn't really penetrate deeply.
