I LOST ALMOST A WHOLE POUND!

Okay, you may think "WOOOOOW, not EVEN a whole pound", but let me explain.

April 12 my first mini goal was to weigh 160. I got on the scale and saw 161. I counted it as success. Then I went out that night for my 21st birthday and you guessed it: drank a lot of alcohol. 6 shots and 1 drink to be exact. Most of those shots were straight alcohol - great for calorie counting but not for fat burning!! I gained 3 lbs. A week and a half later I was back at 161. For the next month, I didn't lose any weight and I only lost inches in 2 places, versus my whole body like I had the previous 2 months when measured. I increased my calories and kicked up both my cardio sessions and my strength training. Another month of not losing weight, but this time I did lose some inches. No more plateau, but still no more weight loss. Another month later (almost to the date), here I am. I was constantly seeing 161 (even though it's really 163 - my scale is off 2 lbs, boo). This morning, I got on... and the ticker was just a liiiiittle over 160, meaning I lost almost a whole pound.

FINALLY. Finally I see a different number! I'm sooo excited. The thing that confuses me is I've lightened up on my work outs. I've only done one strength routine this week (by Friday I'd normally have 2 done) and 2 cardio sessions (by today, I should have had 4 or 5).

So yea me! but a question. Should I continue to keep up this "light" pace or should I go back to my other work outs? I like working out hard and I know I've been losing inches because of it...

I'm not a trainer or health professional, so take my opinion as just that... my opinion. I think you should get back into your normal groove of hard workouts. I seem to do the same thing to myself almost weekly. I do fairly well at exercising and eating right during the week. Then on the weekends I go out to eat, skip workouts, and basically "fall off the wagon." The weight goes up about a pound on Saturday and Sunday, but somehow on Monday morning, I'm usually down a pound or two from where I started. I think that getting off track once in a while keeps your body guessing, but you can't stay that way for too long without your body realizing what you're doing and adjusting to it. Hope this helps/makes sense!

*Side note: I'm pretty sure I need to buckle down, and stop the weekend splurges. I know my body will probably soon get used to this routine as well, and I'll start gaining if I'm not careful.

I love reading your posts Arielle, and I think you're doing a great job! I often see you motivating others, and you ask intelligent, thoughtful questions. Keep up the awesome work!

If I were in your shoes, I would definately keep up the hard works outs. 1. You like them (you lucky thing!) 2. You're losing inches! Who see's the scale besides you - no one. Who see's the inches lost? EVERYONE!!!

Thanks so much everybody!! I think I will keep up the hard work outs. I'm expecting at least an inch and a half off my waist. I can just feel it!!!

jljohnson - Honestly, I've been really good! My eating, despite not working out as much this week, has been great... so I think my body must have just needed a couple days' rest and now I'm going to get back to my normal routine 'cause it's obviously working!

    Sounds like you're doing great!
Just remember, muscle weights more than plain old fat, so don't be disheartened by the scales. My friend went on a diet and did loads of work outs strength and cardio, they got toned and fitter than they had ever been, but for pouonds lost they didn't lose all that many, but they lost a load of inches and went down a few dress sizes. So don't stress the numbers :)

Awesome awesome work.......There has been alot of posts this past week about lower intensity workout is the fat burning mode or something like that

I think if the hardcore workouts work for you and its what you love, then go for it

I think the body has just adjusted to the weight training and is back to losing weight

    Keep going strong

Plus you have the 1k soon, so keep going strong

    Congrats
