So I've been getting headaches the last few days and they arent going away. I'm still very early about 11 weeks, but I had a nurse check my pressure today and it was 144/106! Very scary.
Has anyone had success with changing their diet during pregnancy to reduce their blood pressure. I've read a low sodium diet is actually not recommended during pregnancy, but I'm open to it if it's been effective. I was also looking at a Mg supplement.
Any advice would be wonderful.

I didn't have any luck with changing diet or BP medicine during my pregnancy. I ended up being hospitalized so they could monitor me closely (aka make sure I was actually following my diet and taking my meds, which I was...it just wasn't working) and then having to have an emergency C-section at 34wks.

Unfortunately, the only thing I had success with was taking BP pills during pregnancy. I hated it but it's the only thing that controlled it enough to get me close to due date (5 weeks early both times). Good luck and take care of yourself!0

Yeah, talk with your doctor. Better to be closely monitored then get in too deep.
If you have some seriously bad chest pain, head for the ER.
Wife developed it, our daughter was born at 31 weeks.
Diet might help, but there could likely be an underlying medical condition that needs attention now.0 -
You need medical advice not dietry.
Please see your doctor x0 -
Call your doctor immediately..not to scare you but I really feel as though your doc needs to be aware and give you ideas of if there is any way you can get that down...plus look into the headaches. Maybe he will refer you to a dietician.0

I lowered my sodium didnt help much..put on bed rest on my left side for the last 3 months.0

Recent studies indicate that sodium really doesn't have much to do w/BP after all. Here's what the Mayo Clinic says about treating it... http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/preeclampsia/DS00583/DSECTION=treatments-and-drugs0

Please make sure sure that you closely monitor this with your doctor. Learn about your situation and understand what's going on, but don't take the advice of folks on the internet. Preeclampsia is no joke!
Good luck.0 -
Doing less salt can be helpful. Magnesium can help. I had to do Magnesium shots with my first pregnancy. However, if you and your doctor decide that you need more help ( i.e. medicines) to keep it under control that is okay too. You do what you need to. Also, just because you have dealt with it once doesn't mean every pregnancy will be that way. Like I said my first I dealt with that, but I didn't with any of my other pregnancies including my twins.0

I am being followed, and last time I went the systolic was high but the diastolic wasnt. I feel desperate It's too early and scary. There has to be something out there to control it besides just delivery. I know that there are few options, but maybe someone had success.0

this...though hopefully they know already and this is just supplemenatary advice...:-)0 -
seriously, call you doctor0

ummm....at 11 weeks, it wont be pre eclampsia...just an under lying blood pressure problem that will be controlled by appropriate medication...so shhhhhhush...its ok...not the end of the world to take medication for high blood pressure (better than not taking it!) but just because your blood pressure is high now AS LONG AS IT IS APPROPRIATELY CONTROLLED it does NOT mean the rest of your pregnancy is going to be awful xx0

All kinds of strange things happen in the first trimester of pregnancy. Don't make any changes without your doctor's consent. If you've been eating a lot of high sodium foods, the doctor is not likely to discourage you from reducing it. But if you have been eating a normal diet, it is doubtful he would tell you to go on a low sodium diet.
Agreed that it is not preeclampsia. Preeclampsia doesn't really happen until further along in the pregnancy and involves protein in the urine in addition to an elevated blood pressure.0
