Fat under the belly button

I heard this morning on Good Morning American that men and women that carry weight under their belly button (me) are at higher risk for heart attack. I'm not trying to be a smart *kitten*, but it just seems odd that weight below your belly button causes issues with your heart which is obviously above your belly button. Can someone explain this and how to rid the under the belly button of fat aside from exercise and diet as I always do.

It is a correlation, not causation. See also: most statistics.
Exercise and diet (calorie deficit) is the only way to get rid of fat anywhere. You can't spot reduce from the belly. Just stick with a deficit and it will go away eventually.0
