Frustrated

I am so frustrated that weight loss is going to stall. I have a herniated disc and haven't been able to do much since February. I was starting to be able to walk 30 minutes or so with very little pain. So I bumped it up to longer sessions this weekend. Now I am back to excruciating pain and back spasms. So I am going to be laying around again until this eases off. Just want to get healthy and lose a lot of weight to help with pressure on disc to try to prevent this from ever happening again. Now I am afraid I will gain weight since losing very slowly anyway. Uggghh.

Ultimately weight loss comes down to diet, not exercise. If you're losing slower than you'd expect, it's because you're not in enough of a deficit. Are you accurate with your logging? Do you weight your food? Just make sure you eat the right amount of calories and you'll lose weight regardless of whether you're doing exercise or not.

    Hope you get better soon!

While exercise is beneficial for health and some weight loss, for the most part weight loss is about eating at a deficit, if you are eating at the right deficit you should lose weight.

Make sure you are eating to the calorie deficit allowance set by your profile, weigh and measure all your foods so you have a fairly accurate calorie count.

Weighing everything and eating paleo diet. So no dairy due to intolerance and no grains. Also hypothyroid so that also impacts it as well. I can't complain about weight loss yet though I have lost 9lbs for the last couple of weeks. Just worried because I didn't do a lot of activity due to disc issue but now afraid I am going to be couch bound for awhile.

If you drop your calories low enough, you can lose without exercising.

I'm sorry about your back pain. That sounds horrible. I will say a prayer for you.

Thank you so much. I am allotted 1460 daily but I only eat around 1200-1300 most days. Hoping that is enough of a deficit to elicit weight loss while inactive.

That should be good. You said you did walking. I was doing increasingly longer walks and began to experience some pain. I went to physical therapy and discovered that some of my muscles were over worked because other were not doing their share. I have done strength training to strengthen stomach, shoulders and hips. After about six weeks I am gradually increasing distance again. In the interim can you do other activities like a stationary bike or swimming that do not aggravate the back pain? I know keeping some movement in will help with the back pain.

Trying to move slowly into activity again looking into trying a gym membership with indoor pool and water aerobics. Its 30minutes from home though which makes it tough to go everyday to walk in the pool or to try light water aerobics.

The very most painful thing for my herniated disk is to lie around.

I know but once I increased my activity it landed me back on the couch with excruciatingly painful sciatica and spasms. Just frustrated.
