Introduction

My name is Ryan, and I am a fat guy. My wife loves to cook, and I love to eat. Luckily, I also love to ride bicycles. Injuries over the last few years coupled with big boy genetics means that I am nowhere near an ideal weight. I put on 38 pounds over a year and a half after my 2nd knee surgery in November of 2011, and I was 10 lbs above my weight goal when I needed surgery. I use myfitnesspal to keep me honest as I work off this weight. I'd like to get down to 205 lbs this year, which is a weight I have not seen since I was 19 years old in the Navy (40 y/o now). If I can maintain 205 lbs without nonstop cardio and a starvation diet, I will attempt 190 lbs provided I can do it in a healthy manner. I am not sure genetics will let me get much lighter. I want to achieve this weight because I love racing my mountain bike and I'd like to be competitive rather than an also-ran. I also prefer the pain of intense exercise to the pain of being severely overweight.

I understand the knee thing! I blew out my knee (ACL, PCL and MCL) a little over a year ago and gained 15 lbs. It has been quite to process to get back into shape, and I still struggle with lunges and some of the stuff I used to do. Best of luck!
