Yet another reason I'm glad I'm a man.

I've seen men in full on waist trainers (with steel boning and all). Very sexy, too. ;)

But nobody is taking my bone crushing corsets and bodices away from me! I lurv them and they make my renaissance faire garb complete. After all, you're not wearing it right if you can still breathe.

My corset is very effective. It takes a 36" waist down to a 32. Once I achieve my goals on MFP, my hope is that I will need to purchase a new one to take a 32" or 33" natural waist to a 28.

I agree with Moyer, though. It's very restrictive. I can barely bend over and couldn't see exercising in one.

the ones that they are exercising in is no bone. it's some poly blend and it's wonderful. but I still say that I get better support from the steel boned ones such as from casa divas-that I will never be able to afford but tried on.
I find the "waist trainers" are really more about sweating and less about smooshing. but it's a nice alternative for the night.

    just remember...boots first

@moyer566, very good advice. My 4 1/2" heeled boots don't have laces though. But the zipper is still tough with the corset. ;)

There's a big difference between wearing shape-wear situationally and wearing corsets or other waist-training garments all the time to actually try to reshape your body. The latter is freaky and I imagine unhealthy.

Also, my issue with the Kardashians promoting this nonsense is that they did not achieve that shape through waist-training, it's through a combo of genetics and large amounts of plastic surgery.

    Don't forget Photoshop.

I noticed JWoww from Jersey Shore has been promoting waist training on her Instagram recently too.

And probably selling her version of a training corset?

Regardless. If the standard American public is naive enough to fall for the marketing ploys of celebrities touting 'corseting', that's just foolish. Lay people should know better. We all know about Photoshop, as well as the access that celebrities have to personal chefs, and trainers, and a lot more free time than the rest of us.
And people oughta know that there no quick ways to lose weight or change the way their bodies look.

Here I have to disagree. It is definitely "quick"; it's just not permanent. I have some dresses that just won't fit normally...but with the corset, 4" smaller waist, and voila...

    all shapewear does this
  • I love Corsets I have a vast collection of them. I cannot Understand why someone would wear one to the gym yet I see so many women wearing them to the gym and they don't realize that they're causing damage to themselfs and rendering most of your workout pointless.

I love the Steampunk look and have seen some really incredibly sexy outfits with corsets. I've been considering the idea of creating my own crossplay look and perhaps attending an event. It could be a way to ease into presenting in public.

Don't be pedantic. I'm talking about your actual body, not how you look dressed.

One of my pics in my profile has my favorite corset in it. Wore it to the Steampunk world's fair

    Just to make sure
Do you mean crossplay or cosplay
    They are different

@Ashley___916, thanks for your post. Have you had a positive experience with corsets or waist training?

you said change the way they look. I don't think it gets any more basic than shapeware. that isn't being pedantic.

Hmmm...maybe I am using the term incorrectly. I thought that if you crossdressed for Cosplay, that it was "Crossplay." If I wear a female Steampunk outfit, wouldn't that be Crossplay? If I am confused, please set me straight.

@mccindy72, I think @ch33s3cak3s may be right, check it out: https://www.yahoo.com/health/why-waist-training-is-a-really-really-bad-idea-120455530897.html

If the Kardashians and Jessica Alba are doing it, I could see how impressionable people would follow.

I can't imagine anyone doing anything because the Kardashians are doing it.

Really? I can imagine hundreds of thousands of people trying to emulate their actions exactly. They didn't get that popular just from the haters.
