Best estimates of calories burned?

I've noticed a huge difference between what my Pebble app calories burned estimation is and that registered on the treadmill. And if I look up a workout class online it says some crazy high amount of calories burned but my watch doesn't show half that amount ( even though I'm dripping and have gone blind from all sweat dripping into my eyes). I can't spend a bunch of money on a high tech gizmo so how can I make a more reasonable count of the caloric burn value of my workouts? I want to be honest with myself.

MFP, eat back 50-75% of your exercise calories.

Save up for a cheap HRM such as a Polar FT4. They're pretty useful for steady rate cardio.
